At the WWDC conference Apple have announced the release of the new iOS version 6, set to be available between September – November 2012. The operating system will be available as a free upgrade via the App Store.
Looks like iOS 6 will not run on the original iPad support for the iPad 1 is dropped but the iPhone 3GS is OK and as far as the iPod Touch goes it has to be minimum 4th generation – so it will work on the following iOS devices:

- – iPad2 (WiFi/CDMA/GSM)
- – iPhone 4S
- – iPhone 4 (GSM), iPhone 4 (CDMA)
- – iPhone 3GS
- – iPod 4G
- – iPad 1 – Model iPad1,1
- – iPhone 3 – Model iPhone1,2
- – iPod 3G – Model iPod3,1
